Jesus would remain silent before the chief priests, Herod and Pilate. Three different times He would not answer His accusers. He fulfilled all the prophecies concerning Messiah.

The first time He remained silent was before the chief priests and Caiaphas, the high priest. A sham of a trial, in the darkness before dawn, the verdict already decided upon and the sentence that needed to be given”¦death by crucifixion.

Jesus was “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” (See John 1:29)

Jesus was fulfilling prophecy:

(Amplified) Isaiah 53:7 “He was oppressed, [yet when] He was afflicted, He was submissive and opened not His mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so He opened not His mouth.”

Jesus did not defend Himself at this point”¦

(NASB) Mark 14:60-61a “The high priest stood up and came forward and questioned Jesus, saying, “˜Do You not answer? What is it that these men are testifying against You?”™

61 But He kept silent and did not answer”¦”

When you are falsely accused, as a follower of the Lamb of God, you will be given guidance for when to be silent (or when to speak) by the Holy Spirit within you.

(NIV) Luke 12:11-12 “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

As Jesus had committed Himself into the hands of His Father, so too, His followers are to commit their lives into His hands.

(NIV) Psalm 31:5 “Into Your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O Lord, the God of truth.
