Jesus had been arrested, bound and led away to the house of Annas (the father in-law to Caiaphas the high priest). Jesus was in the house being questioned and abused.

The scene shifts to the courtyard, unlit except for the torches and campfires. Peter has gained entrance because he knew John (who was one of Jesus”™ disciples also). John knew the high priest and so had gotten him into this tense environment. It was a dangerous place for the disciples of Christ on this night of betrayal. (See John 18:15-18)

The Lord God has opened the curtains to two scenes being enacted simultaneously and both scenes are important.

(NIV) John 18:19 “Meanwhile”¦”

“Meanwhile”¦” what is at least one lesson to be learned from this word?

While Simon Peter was going through a highly charged and emotional time”¦”Meanwhile”¦” Jesus was working in Peter”™s”¦and in your”¦behalf.

Meanwhile“¦when you are going through those things that are upsetting, disturbing, frustrating, threatening, dangerous or difficult”¦meanwhile Jesus is working in your behalf. He has been in circumstances which are reflected in your life and He understands where you are.

Jesus is in the “meanwhile”¦” of your life.

His work has been done on the cross and is being done as He intercedes for you in heaven.

Jesus is the One to whom we need to turn for comfort, assurance and hope.

As a follower of Christ He is at work in my life “meanwhile”¦” even when I am not aware of His presence”¦

Remember: meanwhile ~ Jesus is available for you.
