The Sovereignty of Christ Jesus
Sovereignty is the ruling power, the supreme power of a king or monarch or a country. Sovereignty is having supremacy of authority or rule.
Who or what is sovereign in your life? What occupies most of your thoughts? To whom or what do you give your allegiance?
Jesus said:
(NASB) John 15:5 “I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.”
Consider this first phrase of “I am the vine, you are the branches”¦”
Jesus is the Sovereign Lord, the supreme power and He states that we are but branches.
Christ Jesus must become greater in our lives and the “˜I”™ or the “˜me”™ must decrease. (See John 3:30) Like John the Baptist, we too need to recognize Jesus as sovereign in our lives.
You and I are to put God first in our lives. We are to ask Him to give us the mind of Christ (See 1 Corinthians 2:16), to seek His counsel and way of thinking. (See Isaiah 55:8)
The second phrase of “he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit”¦”
Shouldn”™t we take responsibility to remain in Christ, to discipline our thoughts to conform to His way of thinking? We choose what we think, what do you think about the majority of the time? Is it about God”™s word?
What is supreme in your mind?
There is so much more in following Christ after that first step of salvation. Our lives are to bear fruit, spiritual fruit as we grow and mature in Christ.
The third phrase of “for apart from Me you can do nothing.”
When the branch is separated from the vine, it dies, it is without fruit, and it is without life. When I am separated from my Sovereign Lord ““ my thoughts and motives are selfish and focused on “˜me”™ or what “˜I”™ want for others.
To remain in Christ is to focus on God and what He wants for me and others.
Jesus Christ is the Sovereign Lord”¦He is the True Vine”¦
what kind of branch are you?
