Thomas and Peter did not “˜hear”™ what Jesus had just told them in that upper room during the Last Supper. Perhaps the other disciples also were puzzled. How many times have you listened but did not “˜hear”™ what another was saying?

(NASB) John 14:5 “Thomas said to Him, “˜Lord, we do not know where You are going, how do we know the way?”™”

Thomas wanted a city named but Jesus hadn”™t said any one specific destination. And yet, He did”¦when Jesus said in verse 2 “In My Father”™s house are many dwelling places”¦I go to prepare a place for you.”

It is easy for us to know (but the disciples did not know) what Jesus meant. We have the narratives which tell us of the hours of suffering, scourging and death on the cross with the resurrection which followed three days later. The disciples were being forewarned and given a great promise.

We know from Scripture that Jesus ascended into heaven and today sits at the right hand of the Father (See Mark 16:19).

(NASB) John 14:6 “Jesus said to him, “˜I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.”

It is through the Lord Jesus Christ Who is the way into the presence of the Father.

It is Jesus Who is the truth ““ not “˜my truth”™ or “˜your truth”™ ““ but God”™s truth. The God of the Bible cannot lie; He never has and never will. Why cannot God lie? He cannot lie because His character is unchanging.

It is Jesus Who offers life, eternal life, to anyone who receives Him into his/her life as Savior and Lord.

Just reading the Bible will not assure you a way into heaven”¦but believing what you read and acting upon it is important in knowing Jesus as your Savior and Lord. “Listen” with your heart and mind as you read.
