Jesus Christ”¦Intentionally Prepared for Passover
Teachers prepare lesson plans for their students on a daily basis. They have a goal for their students. They know how they are going to reach their goal for their student”™s good.
Jesus had a goal in mind when He gave quiet, secret instructions to two of His disciples. He wanted an uninterrupted time with His twelve disciples on the last Passover He would eat with them before His death and resurrection.
(NASB) Luke 22:7-13 “Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.”
(See Wednesday, September 16, 2009 for the significance of Passover.)
8 And Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “˜Go and prepare the Passover for us, so that we may eat it.”™
9 They said to Him, “˜Where do you want us to prepare it?”™
10 And He said to them, “˜When you have entered the city, a man will meet you carrying a pitcher of water; follow him into the house that he enters.
11 “˜And you shall say to the owner of the house, “˜The Teacher says to you, “˜Where is the guest room in which I may eat the Passover with My disciples?”™
12 “˜And he will show you a large, furnished upper room; prepare it there.”™
13 And they left and found everything just as He had told them; and they prepared the Passover.”
Jesus gave explicit instructions to two of His disciples. The details had been attended to by Jesus. It was vitally important to maintain the utmost secrecy because Judas Iscariot was looking for a way to hand Jesus over to the authorities without a crowd present. And Jesus knew this.
What are some lessons we can learn from this passage of Scripture?
1) God”™s intentions have a specific purpose in mind. His love for people was at the top of His list, and it still is, He loves you!
(NIV) 1 Peter 5:6-7 “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God”™s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. 7Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
2) God pays attention to details, they are important ““ He protected His timing for the fulfilling of His purposes.
3) God fulfills His words spoken hundreds of years before and also fulfills His promises made in the Garden of Eden. (See Genesis 3:15)
God is the unchanging God”¦we can trust Him!
God”™s intentions have not changed”¦we can trust Him!
