The Scriptures indicate that the religious leaders in Jerusalem were focused on arresting Jesus with the intent to kill Him. Scripture does not indicate in any of the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke or John), that these religious leaders were intent on the worship of God through this sacred Feast of Unleavened Bread (Passover).

(NASB) Luke 22:1-2 “NOW THE Feast of Unleavened Bread, which is called the Passover, was approaching.

2 The chief priests and the scribes were seeking how they might put Him to death; for they were afraid of the people.”

Unscrupulous leaders have agendas which are deceptive and deadly. Many times the agendas remain hidden because these same leaders fear the people and their reactions.

Such was the case in Jerusalem, for Jesus was popular with the crowds who were there to celebrate Passover.

How very important it is to pray for our Pastors, Priests and church leaders.

One reason we need to pray: it is easy to fall into the temptation of absolute authority without being accountable to the people they serve.

Another reason: absolute authority believes in their own agendas without yielding to God”™s plans and purposes.

(NASB) Luke 22:3-6 “And Satan entered into Judas who was called Iscariot, belonging to the number of the twelve.

4 And he went away and discussed with the chief priests and officers how he might betray Him to them.

5 They were glad and agreed to give him money.

6 So he consented, and began seeking a good opportunity to betray Him to them apart from the crowd.”

Jesus would not have been surprised at Judas Iscariot”™s betrayal because it was foretold by David in:

(NASB) Psalm 41:9 “Even my close friend in whom I trusted,

Who ate my bread,

Has lifted up his heel against me.”

What are some ways to relate Luke 22:1-6 today?

The people in power tried to orchestrate circumstances which seemed to weigh heavily against Jesus ““ yet He waited for God”™s perfect timing.

No matter our circumstances”¦or emotions”¦or desires ““ we are to trust God for His purposes and His outcome of our circumstances. This is how He will receive honor and glory.

Keep Jesus Christ the focus of your motives, words and actions”¦and God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit will receive all the honor, glory and praise.

May the God of the Holy Bible bless you with His comfort and His peace.
