Do Not Worry”¦Turn to God
There are many clichés used with the word “˜worry”™ or “˜anxiety”™. The dictionary defines a cliché as: A trite or overused expression or idea.
A cliché is one which had, at one time, a fresh original sound but through overuse has lost its luster.
Worry is to feel uneasy about whatever is uncertain or something that is threatening. Worry is to be troubled, to feel anxious and distressed.
It is easy to say, “˜Stop worrying”™, and another thing to change that thought pattern.
What does the word of God say in the Holy Bible about fears, worries, or anxieties?
To Whom are we to turn when we worry and are anxious?
(NASB) Psalm 34:4 “I sought the Lord, and He answered me,
And delivered me from all my fears.”
It is the Lord”™s work to deliver us from all our fears. We can”™t use our self-control or will to be delivered from worry, anxiety and/or fears. We need the Lord to work in us. We need to look to God for His help. He may use a relative, health professional, a sermon, a hymn or His words to give you His peace, His peace surpasses our comprehension”¦His Holy Spirit in us is at work.
(NASB) Psalm 46:1-3 “GOD IS our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;
3 Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride.”
When our world is “˜coming apart at the seams”™, we need to run, not walk, to seek God through prayer and reading His word, then trusting Him.
Cataclysmic events cause fear”¦whether through nature”™s furies or political turmoil, or disastrous relationships.
God”™s word tells us how to handle anxieties, worries and fears:
(NASB) Philippians 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests by made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
The peace which God gives truly “˜surpasses all comprehension”™. Turn to God and then turn your circumstances over into His capable hands, trusting Him when it is really hard.
We do not need to depend on clichés to help us through times of worry, fear or anxiety. We need to depend on the living God, Whose words are true and Who keeps His promises.
May the peace of God guard your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus the next time you have a worry, fear or are anxious.
