There is a famous quote that is often misquoted. The misquote is: “˜Money is the root of all evil.”™ The true quote is found in:

(NIV) 1 Timothy 6:10 “For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil”¦”

(Underlining added)

Money is necessary in this life; however, our attitude toward it is the key.

Jesus”™ Sermon on the Mount reveals the relevancy of God”™s words today.

(NASB) Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.”

Your master and mine is determined by what controls your thoughts, your time and energy.

What “˜masters”™ your love and devotion?

Who do you worship?

What “˜master”™ are you really serving?

Jesus said that we cannot serve two masters, its impossible. Love and devotion for one will mean hating and despising the other.

What is your primary aim in life? Is it focused on protecting your money to the exclusion of protecting your relationship with the living God?

For those old enough to remember the comic book character of Scrooge

Mc Duck, he was often pictured sitting on his money bags and counting his coins. If someone were to describe you, would they picture you doing the same?

In tough economic times, money evaporates; it seems to disappear through no fault of those who have been careful in saving and protecting their hard-earned money.

Reliance on money or reliance on the living God ““ those are some of our choices. When anyone relies on their money (no matter if it is much or little), it takes away from relying on God and His words.

Where you place your confidence ““

that is where your heart is.
