The Lord”™s Authority & Our Accountability
Where do people go to be taught about the God of the Bible? Many attend Sunday School and listen to the Pastor”™s/Priest”™s sermons. Many have Bible studies and use devotionals. Quiet times spent in reading God”™s words and praying is also a way to be taught by God from His word.
The Lord”™s Authority
Jesus taught people in the synagogue on the Sabbath (Saturday).
(NASB) Luke 4:31-32 “And He came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and He was teaching them on the Sabbath;
32 and they were amazed at His teaching, for His message was with authority.”
For Jesus to teach you and me ““ what do we need to do? Being available is one answer we could give. Openness to hear and a heart to understand and comprehend His words is also an answer to our need.
Why should anyone listen to Jesus? The people who heard His teachings were amazed. He didn”™t teach as most men taught”¦His message had the weight of authority behind it.
When you listen to someone who is speaking in the behalf of another, it is good. However, when you hear someone speaking from the full authority of their position”¦it means a lot more. And Jesus teaches, even today, from the full authority of His position!
Our Accountability
Psalm 90:11-12 These verses could be paraphrased in a prayer that is personal and relevant today: “˜Lord, I do not know the power of Your anger, Your wrath is as great as the fear that is Your due. Forgive my arrogance. Forgive me for being accountable only to myself and not to You.
Teach me, O Lord, to measure my days in a way that is right to You, so that I may gain a heart of wisdom.”™
The Psalms are prayers that you and I can voice to God ““ for they are prayers of men who had problems, fears, and needs like you and I do today. These prayers, many times, end in praise to the living God”¦what a way to focus on Him!
