(NASB) Matthew 3:13 “Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan coming to John, to be baptized by him.”

What is difficult to understand about Jesus”™ purpose to be baptized by John? Jesus, again, purposely humbled Himself (God Who is without sin) to be baptized by John (a man who had sin in him ““ all have sinned and have fallen short of God”™s glory. Romans 3:23)

Amazing isn”™t it?!!!

(NASB) Matthew 3:14 “But John tried to prevent him, saying, “˜I have need to be baptized by You, and do you come to me?”™”

John recognized the vast difference between himself, a man, and Jesus, the Son of God. John”™s humility was true humility.

True humility is genuine, without hidden agendas.

John later said of Jesus and himself: (NASB) John 3:30 “He must increase, but I must decrease.”

John recognized that God is God and that he was not!

What is your estimation of yourself compared to God the Son? Must He increase in your life; do you purpose to decrease in your estimation of yourself in comparison to Jesus?

John chose that type of humility, even though he was called by God to announce Messiah to Israel and to the world.

John recognized the vast difference between himself and Jesus.

(NASB) Matthew 3:15 “But Jesus answering said to him, “˜Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.”™ Then he permitted Him.”

Jesus”™ authority permitted this action on John”™s part ““ John had been chosen for this very task ““ preparing the way and introducing Messiah!

Jesus”™ humility was for you and me, John”™s humility and ours is before God! How do you assess yourself compared to Jesus? Is it like John”™s testimony?

“He must increase, but I must decrease.”
