When you are hungry, where do you go to satisfy your hunger? When you are tired, where do you go to rest? When you know you need God”™s forgiveness, to Whom do you pray? If you are wise, you will approach the throne of God in the name of His Son, Jesus Christ.

(NASB) Hebrews 4:14 “Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession.”

In the Jewish faith only the high priest could go into the Holy of Holies within the temple and offer the atonement for the nation of Israel, one time a year.

Only the High Priest, Jesus ““ the Son of God ““ could go before the living God and offer His blood in your place and mine as the atoning sacrifice for our sins (one time was enough!). Christ did not need to die over and over”¦He was (and is) God, perfect God. His one-time sacrifice was enough.

Because of what Jesus has done for you and me ““ this is why we need to hold fast to our confession that Jesus is Lord, Who has risen from the dead by the power of God. (See Romans 10:9)

What a High Priest anyone can have “¦ if they confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe that God has raised Him from the dead. We worship a living Savior, not a dead deity.

(NASB) Hebrews 4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.”

Jesus understands, and sympathizes, with you and me. He understands our weaknesses and where we yield to temptation and thus sin. What we perceive to be our strengths may very well be our “˜chink in our armor”™”¦so we need to be careful as to what we may think is our strength.

Jesus understands because He too was tempted in every area in which we are tempted”¦the difference is, we sin! He never did, not once, nor will He ever sin”¦for He is God.

(NASB) Hebrews 4:16 “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”

For this reason, you and I can go boldly to God”™s throne of unmerited favor (it is His throne of grace). It is there that we will find His mercy and His grace in our time of need.

How shall you now pray?
