God Remembers His Mercy
When a child is promised…something…that child will remember what was promised until it is given.
When a husband or wife promises their mate something that promise will be remembered until it is fulfilled.
Broken promises hurt. They hurt the relationship and a trust is broken. Unrealistic expectations are assumptions of unspoken promises – this can lead to bitter resentment and even hatred – the death of a relationship may result.
God has promised mercy – have you received His promise of mercy? God never breaks His promises – and His promises are always in His perfect timing.
Mary continued to magnify and glorify her God as she poured out this Magnificat:
(NASB) Luke 1:54 “He has given help to Israel His servant, In remembrance of His mercy,
55 As He spoke to our fathers, To Abraham and his descendants forever.”
God remembers His mercy. God’s mercy is seen over and over in the history of Israel – the book of Judges is one of many good examples. God appointed a judge over His people and the national scene would be good. Then the judge died and the people would go back to being…people without a godly leader. They would rebel against God and go their own way. Enemies would come and take over, the people then would remember… “˜Oh yes, God we need you’, they would repent, turning to Him once again. He would give them mercy, appoint a judge and life would become good for the nation once again. Repeatedly, God would give the Israelites mercy, because He remembered them.
The above is an example of God’s mercy in the Old Testament. God’s mercy is seen in the New Testament when Jesus Christ was born, lived, and then died on the cross. God’s mercy included His Son suffering for sins (yours and mine) as if they were His own. God remembers His promises…He remembers His mercy for you.
As believers, all followers of Christ, are included in this magnification of God as Mary spoke: why is this? Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ believe by faith in what He has done for us on the cross and in His resurrection…we are the seed of Abraham. Before Abraham was singled out by circumcision, his faith was in the living God. (See Romans 4:16)
God remembers His mercy to Abraham’s descendants of faith…
What promises of God will you say are yours today?
