Relationships can be wonderful, or difficult. Relationships with family, in the work place, in the neighborhood, even in the church can be wonderful…or difficult. It is a mix that is complicated. People want to be loved. It is hard to love others unconditionally, yet that is what we want for ourselves, isn’t it? To be loved unconditionally?
Our relationship to and with the living God of the Bible is to lead us to know that He loves us…the only condition being that we receive Jesus as our Savior. Our relationship with God needs to be nurtured through reading His word, prayer and depending on Him for whatever happens in our lives.
Mary had a relationship with God and her worship of Him is evident in the Magnificat. Her high regard for God is revealed in her devotion to Him. She had “found favor with God” (See Luke 1:30).
You and I find favor with God through the Lord Jesus Christ ~ have you found His favor?
Mary yielded to God’s desires for her; she embraced and trusted Him in her circumstances. Did she understand all that would mean? I don’t believe so. Watch Mary as the life of Christ unfolds…she did not understand that Jesus would not announce that He was Messiah at a wedding feast…she did not understand when crowds surrounded Jesus and she could not get to His side…she did not understand that His life would end on a cross. However, her faith in God her Savior was on track…is yours? No matter what “˜life’ is hurling your way today?
(NASB) Luke 1:49 “For the Mighty One has done great things for me; And holy is His name.”
Mary had awe and wonder for the might and majesty and the personal involvement of God in her life. What great things had God done for Mary? He called her “˜favored’, she would bear the Son of God, her faith was increased because she believed that with God all things are possible, she recognized that her relative Elizabeth was blessed among women – by God.
Elizabeth had been chosen among the many Jewish women to bear the forerunner to Messiah. Elizabeth would be filled with the Holy Spirit of God…blessing indeed. Elizabeth, alone, would understand the things that Mary was experiencing…Elizabeth was a blessing from God to Mary.
What great things has God done for you?
Has He opened your blind eyes to “˜see’ Jesus and receive Him as your Savior? (To receive a gift, we have to intentionally take it in our hands and open it…have you done this with Jesus?)
Have you recognized the continuous gift of God’s grace, day by day? As sins come to mind, do you ask His forgiveness? Then receive that forgiveness, knowing that what God says is true for you. (See 1 John 1:9)
Have you received the awesome knowledge that God accepts you, is pleased with you, and all because you are a believer who obeys God’s words, in worship of Him?
(NASB) Romans 12:1 “THEREFORE, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God – this is your spiritual act of worship.”
How did Mary think about God?
