Followers of Christ have a responsibility to know what God’s word says about living a life of faith. Your faith in Christ Jesus is to live a life of moral excellence. We have promises that we can claim in God’s word. Moral excellence is a quality that makes us useful and fruitful when we have a true knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Apply God’s teachings today by living out your faith in Jesus Christ.

(NASB) 2 Peter 1:5-7 “Now for this very reason also, applying all diligence, in your faith supply moral excellence, and in your moral excellence, knowledge,

6 and in your knowledge, self-control, and in your self-control, perseverance, and in your perseverance, godliness,

7 and in your godliness, brotherly kindness, and in your brotherly kindness, love.

***This list is for all followers of Christ. What an example of godly virtues is given here. We are to start with applying all diligence to doing what God’s word says to do. That’s one of the first steps after knowing Christ as our Savior. Our faith will supply moral excellence and then away we go into living the life of a Christian.

As we diligently put God’s word into practice in the way we interact with other people, our knowledge of how true God’s words are will increase our wonder that God is using us where we live.

With added knowledge, we are to put self-control into action along with perseverance. By exercising self-control and persevering we will be adding godliness to our character. Godliness will lead to being kind to others and a brotherly love for others. This list is not “˜if I want to’ but this is a list that says “˜this you will do’ as a follower of Christ.

We are given specifics of true knowledge about faith in Jesus Christ.

(NASB) 2 Peter 1:8 “For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
