Good Works are to Glorify God
Each person has an opportunity to choose wisely or foolishly. Each person has an opportunity to speak words of wisdom or words without content. What do your actions and words reveal about you? Does your thinking always come back to what is best for you? Does your thinking encompass others needs first? When you have the opportunity, do you become personally involved and caring for others needs from a godly perspective? Do you stand by your convictions and live out your faith? If you have “˜gotten off track’ or have never lived a godly life…today is not too late to start.
Today is a gift in which you can choose wisely and to speak words of wisdom with actions to back them up. However, you and I cannot do this well if we do it without the strength and power of the Lord Jesus Christ in our lives. If we are followers of Christ but do not depend on Him for what we need, we are foolish. (Do you know who a “˜fool’ is? A “˜fool’ is one without God.)
Boaz was a godly and wise man… “˜watch’ him as he interacts with Ruth:
(NASB) Ruth 2:8 “Then Boaz said to Ruth, “˜Listen carefully, my daughter. Do not go to glean in another field; furthermore, do not go on from this one, but stay here with my maids.”
***Boaz purposely went to where Ruth was sitting. He gave a personal invitation to her to work only in his fields. He told her to stay with his maids, the women who were reaping the grain.
Can you “˜see’ Ruth as she is sitting in the shade of a house during her break from the hot sun? She had picked this field at random early in the morning, she had gained permission from the foreman and then had worked in the dust and chaff filled air. Now, the owner has approached this sweaty and grimy woman who was from Moab.
(NASB) Ruth 2:9 “Let your eyes be on the field which they reap, and go after them. Indeed, I have commanded the servants not to touch you. When you are thirsty, go to the water jars and drink from what the servants draw.”
***Boaz protected Ruth from any thoughts his workers may have had about her. He gave his personal permission for her to use the water that his servants used. Boaz took good care of his workers…he provided water and “˜breaks’ in their day for their needs.
How often do employers and employees have such a relationship as Boaz with his workers? His thoughtfulness revealed his godly character. Boaz is a quiet hero.
If you are a “˜boss’, how do you treat those working for you?
If you are an employee or volunteer, what kind of work ethic do you exhibit?
