Naomi protected her daughter-in-law, Ruth.  Naomi encouraged Ruth to continue to gather stalks of grain from the fields of Boaz, a close kinsman to Naomi’s deceased husband.  Naomi gave her instructions regarding Boaz.

One day at the end of harvest, a feast would be held at the threshing floor.  Ruth was to wait until Boaz ate, and laid down to sleep.  In the middle of the night, Ruth was to go to the feet of Boaz and cover herself with his cover.  When Boaz woke up, Ruth was to do what he told her to do.  Ruth listened to her mother-in-law and obeyed.

Boaz was startled awake when he realized a woman lay at his feet.  Boaz asked, Who are you?  Ruth answered, I am Ruth, your maidservant.  You are a close relative and Boaz responded, May you be blessed by the Lord, it was a kindness that you did not go to a younger man.  Don’t fear I will do whatever you ask, you have an excellent reputation.

Boaz continued, It is true I am a close relative, but there is one man closer than me.  Stay here tonight, when early morning comes, slip away.  If the other man redeems you, so be it.  If he does not I will redeem you.  Ruth 3:1-13
Ruth stayed at Boaz’ feet till early morning.  He cautioned his people not to say anything about Ruth being there.  Boaz gave grain to Ruth for herself and Naomi.  Ruth returned to Naomi and told her all that was said.  Naomi said the man will not rest till he has settled this situation today.

Boaz: Boaz was a godly man.  Are you godly?
Boaz spoke with wisdom.  He was a righteous man.
Boaz had the law of his God in his heart and it showed in how he treated others.
Boaz’s way of life was exemplary.  His steps did not slip.

What are you showing yourself to be?
A godly person by the way you act and speak?

God’s Word ~ Alive!
Psalm 37:30-31
“The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
And his tongue speaks justice.
The law of his God is in his heart;
His steps do not slip.”

Boaz was a godly man.
Are you godly?
Does your mouth utter wisdom?
Is the law of your God in your heart?
If so then you are a righteous person.
Then your steps will not slip.
