Moses was minding his own business, herding sheep in the wilderness. He saw a bush burning, but not being reduced to ashes. Curious, he went over to look. Sure enough that was a real fire, flaming brightly.
The LORD spoke from the middle of that fire. He said to Moses – I have heard the cry of those slaves in Egypt. They are suffering at the hand of their Egyptian taskmasters. Exodus 3:2
I will come down to deliver them from the Egyptian power over them and I will bring them to the Promised Land, where many people live. Exodus 3:7-8
God repeated Himself to Moses. Look, the sons of Israel are praying to Me. I have seen their oppression by the Egyptians. For this reason I am sending you to Pharaoh, you are going to bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt. Exodus 3:9-10
How did Moses respond? “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh, and that I should bring the sons of Israel out of Egypt?” Moses understood what God was calling him to do. A humanly impossible task. Exodus 3:11
In today’s speech, Moses could have sounded like this: What? You want me to do what…?
What is God calling you to do? Perhaps you have put cement in your shoes and refuse to take the next step which God wants you to take. Let the end results be up to God. He knows where He is calling you to, better than your limited understanding can even fathom.
How did God respond to Moses? “Certainly I will be with you, this is a sign of proof to you – you will worship Me on this mountain – in the middle of this wilderness. Exodus 3:12
Moses, thinking ahead, When I go to the sons of Israel and tell them ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you.’ They are going to say, what is His name? What will I tell them?
God revealed His special name to Moses, the one he was to use when he talked with the sons of Israel. “I Am Who I Am – you will tell them “I Am” has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:13-14
God told Moses whom he was to contact and talk with first, telling them what God had told him.
Moses learned to know God in the years that followed and expressed it in two Psalms 90-91. What Moses learned about God, The I Am. Moses wrote about who God was to him.
Moses grew in his faith. You are also encouraged to grow in your knowledge and faith in the living God.
God’s Word ~ Alive!
Psalm 91:1-2
“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the LORD, ‘My refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust!’”
Honestly consider,
can you agree that God is
your refuge, your fortress, your God?
Do you trust Him enough to declare this?
