Many years pass from the times of Joseph as prime minister of Egypt. The families of Jacob-Israel, his father, grew in numbers. Joseph was forgotten by the present Pharaoh. In fact this Pharaoh feared and was intimidated by the number of the Israelites living in the land of Goshen (a part of Egypt). He made them his slaves, he appointed taskmasters over them, afflicting them. They were put to hard labor for the Pharaoh.
The lives of the slaves were bitter, with labor rigorously imposed on them. They needed to make bricks for the cities they were helping to build.
It got to the point that Pharaoh demanded they make the bricks themselves, hunting the straw to mix with the clay to make bricks. Even this hard work never stopped the Israelites from adding babies to their families.
Then the Pharaoh got a brilliant idea. Kill the boy babies when they were born. He called two midwives (women who helped with the birthing of new babies) and told them they were to kill any boy babies who were born of the slaves. All girl babies, let them live.
What the Pharaoh didn’t know, these two midwives feared God more than they did him. They didn’t follow the harsh orders of the Pharaoh.
One day he called them, asking them why are you letting the boy babies live? The two midwives said, the Israelite women are very vigorous and they have the babies before we get there.
God was good to the midwives and the Israelites continued to multiply and grow in numbers.
Pharaoh then told his people, the Egyptians, throw the boys into the Nile River and let the girls live. Exodus 1:1-22
The sons of the Israelites, the whole camp of the Hebrews, escaped death and were allowed to enter life. They were taken out of slavery, a type of death, and escaped to enter life as a freed people, when Moses lead them out of Egypt.
All those who come to Jesus, who receive Jesus as their Savior, escape death, eternal death and are allowed to enter life, eternal life~
