Jacob was dying… Joseph, his son who was the prime minister in Egypt, took his two sons to his father. Jacob had a special message he wanted his son and grandsons to know, and he sat up in bed. Jacob told them about how the Almighty appeared to him and blessed him. He also told what God Almighty said to him – He would make Jacob fruitful and multiply his descendants. Joseph’s two sons, born in Egypt, became Jacob’s sons, even as his sons were his.
Jacob told Joseph about where he buried Rachel in Bethlehem (she was Joseph’s mother). Genesis 48:1-9
Jacob asked for Joseph’s two sons to come closer, hugging them. Jacob told Joseph, I never expected to ever see you, and now I have seen your two sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. Jacob stretched out his hands to bless the two boys. He used his right hand to Ephraim’s head to bless him. and using his left hand he placed it on Manasseh’s head to bless him. Joseph tried to change his fathers hands, but Jacob said, no. Ephraim the younger son would be greater than his older brother, Manasseh. Jacob adopted these two sons as his own. The two boys would be on equal footing with the brothers of Joseph.
