Even when it seems circumstances are beyond the bounds of comfort.
When circumstances are out of control.
We are experiencing that in the world today!
Famine was in Egypt and all the surrounding countries. It was severe and would last seven years. That’s a loooong time!
Joseph was in charge of the stored grain in Egypt. And he was also responsible for his extended family. They put down roots in one of the best parts of Egypt, the land of Goshen, with Pharaoh’s blessing. They were separated from most Egyptians.
God was working through Joseph’s position as prime minister. At first Joseph took money for the grain that the Egyptians needed. Their money ran out, then Joseph bartered for the livestock of Egypt for a year of grain for their families.
When the livestock was all given to Pharaoh, then Joseph asked the people to give their land for a year’s worth of grain. They did so, with one exception, the Egyptian priests were not required to give their land to Pharaoh. Next came a dilemma! What else would the people be able to give for needed grain? Pharaoh would get ⅕ of the produce of the grain, the people agreed. The only exception were the priests.
God was working out His plans for His people, the Israelites in Egypt. Genesis 47:1-26
The Israelites were multiplying. Joseph lived another 17 years. Before Joseph died, he had the Israelites promise that when they left Egypt, they would take his body and bury it in the family burial cave with the bodies of Abraham and Sarah; Isaac and Rachel; Jacob and Leah. Genesis 47:27-31
Joseph believed God would be working on behalf of His people, Israel.
