Difficult Circumstances
Genesis 44:1-34
Joseph found out his brothers had changed over the years. Gone were the envy, the jealousy and the resentment of the brothers for their father’s favorite, Benjamin. Years before they envied, resented Joseph’s special treatment by their father.
Joseph’s brothers were standing before him in his home in Egypt as the Prime Minister, of great political power. They must have been “shaking in their sandals”.
Genesis 45:1-7
Joseph asked his servants to leave the room then he told his brothers who he was… their brother Joseph. He wept loudly, and the Pharaoh heard. The brothers were struck dumb! Joseph alive? This man was Joseph? Joseph realized his brothers were so shocked they didn’t believe him. He motioned for his brothers to come closer, I am your brother Joseph whom you sold into Egypt as a slave. Don’t be angry with yourselves, you sold me here – God sent me before you to preserve your lives.
Famine for the past two years will continue for five more years. God sent me before you to preserve a remnant alive and to keep you alive by a great deliverance.
The Lord Jesus also came into the world that He would deliver all who believe in Him with a great deliverance to keep people alive whose faith is in Him as Savior.
God sent Joseph to Egypt for this time in history. God gave Joseph his present position of being second in power in Egypt under Pharaoh.
Joseph told his brothers to go back and bring their families and their father to Egypt. I will provide so you may live.
Pharaoh invited the brothers to come and live in Egypt. Joseph provided wonderful gifts to his brothers. The Pharaoh sent carts for easier travel back to Egypt. Genesis 45:21-24
