Deceptions are lies and lead to more lies and deceptions.

Genesis 27:13-17
Rebekah had a hastily put together plan … to deceive her husband, Isaac.
Jacob, Rebekah’s favorite son, questioned his mother.  Not about the act of deception but how were they going to convince his dad that he was the other twin brother, Esau.
Rebekah was intent on her goal.. to have Isaac, her husband, bless Jacob.

Jacob was concerned that he would earn a curse from his dad if he were found out.  The plot thickens.  Rebekah said, “Your curse be on me, my son, only obey my voice, and go, get them (meat) for me.”
Jacob killed a goat and brought the meat to his mother, who prepared it into a favorite meal for Isaac.

Jacob was actively involved in deceiving his dad.  Later in his life, he too would be deceived.

Jacob put on Esau’s best garment.  Rebekah put skins, the young goat’s hide, hair side out on Jacob’s hands and the smooth part of his neck.  Then Rebekah handed the fragrant meat dish to Jacob to take to Isaac.

From fear to deception then executing the thoughts in order to procure the blessing … Deception is lying, flat out lying.

Jacob was a deceiver… yet through Him, Messiah would be in his genealogy.  God’s truth is of utmost importance.  He never covers up real people’s sins.  He never lets us get away with deceptions and lies.  Jacob never saw his well loved mother again.  What a price Rebekah paid to gain Isaac’s blessing for her favorite son!
