Abraham’s servant prayed before he met Isaac’s future wife.  The servant had a mission to get a wife for Isaac, if she was willing to go.

He wanted to be sure of God’s leading him to the right girl.  So he prayed.

The journey had been a long one, and it was done with ten camels.  I would think with that many camels, there would be a servant for each camel.  And possibly more servants were with this group of travelers.  After all, they were carrying expensive gifts to give to the woman and her family.

The servant was dependent on the God of Abraham.  His prayer acknowledged the God of his master, Abraham.  He asked for success and God’s lovingkindness be shown to his master (notice, he did not say himself.)  Then the servant told God his circumstances, he was standing by the spring and the daughters of the people were coming out to draw water.  Then the servant said a very specific prayer, after all he didn’t know anyone.  Had never met anyone connected to Abraham’s family, and he was supposed to get a wife for Isaac from a specific family.

The servant said, “now may it be that the girl to whom I say, ‘Please let down your jar so that I may drink,’ and who answers, ‘Drink, and I will water your camels also’ – may she be the one whom You have appointed for Your servant Isaac; and by this I will know that You have shown lovingkindness to my master.”  Genesis 24:14

That was a bold prayer, imagine anyone volunteering to water ten thirsty camels!

This servant was honest, forthright and specifically prayed for God’s will.
