“Watch” the progression of faith in Abraham, the patriarch of the Jewish people.
God Himself called Abraham while he still lived in Ur of the Chaldes (that’s the area of Babylon, Iraq today).
Abraham obeyed, kind of.  He did leave Ur and without a map or GPS.  He went forward into an adventure of living by faith in God’s call to him.
Abraham was supposed to leave his father’s house and his relatives who should have been left behind in Ur.  Genesis 12:1

God’s promises:  Genesis 12:2
The LORD would make of Abraham a great nation
The LORD would bless him and make his name great
The LORD would make Abraham a blessing
The LORD will bless those who bless Abraham
The LORD will curse those who curse Abraham
In Abraham – “all the families of the earth will be blessed.”  Genesis 12:3

Abraham went forth from Ur to Haran and stopped at Haran, where his father died.  He went off from there taking his nephew Lot with him.  This is a side note: when Abraham left Haran he was 75 years old.

Abraham, Sarai (his wife) and Lot (his nephew) set out for Canaan.

Think about this, he probably had a house to live in, in Ur.  Now he would spend the rest of his life living in a tent.  Being a nomad, moving from place to place.

People were living in Canaan.  And God met Abraham there, in Canaan.  The LORD promised this very land to Abraham and his descendants.  How did Abraham respond?  He built an altar to the LORD who appeared to him.
The next stopping place was east of Bethel.  Again he built an altar and called upon the name of the LORD.

Have you noticed the progression of Abraham’s faith?  Obedience was from the beginning, belief in the LORD God.  Growing knowledge of the living God who called him to go into a distant land.  Worship of God Himself.

Hebrews 11:6
“And without faith it is impossible to please Him,
for he who comes to God must believe that He is
and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”
Is your faith growing in the living God?
