Not for the first time
1 Chronicles 21:28
David offered a costly sacrifice to the LORD on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
This was not the first time a costly sacrifice was given at this place.
Many hundreds of years before the LORD called Abraham to take his only son, Isaac, to Mt. Moriah and there offer Isaac as a sacrifice to the living God. Isaac was the only heir through which the LORD would bless the future generations of Israel. Genesis 22
Abraham’s faith was in the LORD. The LORD told him to take his only son, Isaac, whom Abraham loved, and go to the land of Moriah. There he was to offer his teen-age son as a burnt offering on one of the mountains.
Genesis 22:2
Because Abraham’s faith was in the living God, the next morning he prepared for a three day journey and took what was needed for a sacrifice. He also took one servant and a donkey. Genesis 22:3-4
Abraham went to worship the LORD. Genesis 22:5
This was the first time a sacrifice was offered on Mt. Moriah, but it would not be the last time.
God, in His grace and mercy, did not require Abraham to sacrifice his only heir to God’s promises. Instead, God provided a ram for the sacrifice. Genesis 22:13
Many years later, David bought the very area from Ornan the Jebusite to offer a burnt offering to the LORD.
And not for the first time, that site became the site of the temple which Solomon built for the glory of God. And many sacrifices were offered there over many years.
Not for the first time… Jesus died as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of the world. All the other burnt offerings were “pictures” of Christ Jesus’ sacrifice which God required for your sins and mine.
Consider this ~
God sees down through the centuries
God provided His Son for you!
And Jesus came to save the world from their sins.
What does the world need to do?
To receive Jesus as their Savior.
Not for the first time, but for the last time,
Jesus died for each person.
