1 Chronicles 20:1
“Then it happened in the spring, at the time when kings went out to battle… But David stayed at Jerusalem…”

The chronicler did not include David’s actions and choices when he stayed in Jerusalem.  David’s indiscretion with Bathsheba and the killing of her husband was not revealed.  God dealt with David and he responded.  We can read his response in Psalm 32 and Psalm 51.  These prayers were written by David after he was called out concerning his sins.

God included David’s sins in 2 Samuel 11:1-20, so it was not repeated by the chronicler.

Many times, as we live our lives, our observations or information which comes to us could ruin another’s reputation or memory.

We need to make a decision, do we tell others what we know?  Whether that person is dead or alive… their reputation or memory is at stake.  All due to the temptation to gossip!

Confidentiality is important about what we know of others, whether dead or alive.
Do we tell “juicy tidbits” about another to our family, neighbors or even strangers?
A question which comes to mind – do I want to destroy another person’s reputation or memory by what I know?  Whether that person is dead or alive…

What is gossip?  (a definition: worthless words against another, which is slander.)
What does gossip do?  It can cause strife, jealousy, anger, disputes, slander, arrogance, disturbances.  2 Corinthians 12:20
How does gossip spread like a wild fire?  By word of mouth.

Consider this ~

Does your mouth spread gossip, like a wild fire?
OR
Does gossip stop with you?
