God’s plan – – – or yours?
1 Chronicles 17:1-10 paraphrased
David had a house and he said to Nathan, the prophet, “Behold, I am dwelling in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD is under curtains (a tent).”
That very night, God’s word came to Nathan and God told Nathan to go to David and tell him he is not to build Me a house. I have been content to dwell in a tent since Moses brought the sons of Israel out of Egypt, many years ago. I have walked with Israel, I have never asked you, “Why have you not built for Me a house of cedar?” 1 Chronicles 17:6
God further said to Nathan, tell David that I brought him from being a shepherd to lead my people Israel. I have been with David wherever he went and it was I who cut off David’s enemies. I made and will make David’s name great. David will be numbered with the great kings of the earth.
God continued to say that one of David’s sons would build God a house (a temple).
David accepted God’s plan and relinquished his own desires.
