Doing God’s work, God’s way
1 Chronicles 15:1-2
David built houses for himself in the city of David. The city of David is a small portion of land near the inside walls of Jerusalem. On the other side of the wall is a steep ravine called Kidron (a brook and valley between Jerusalem and the Mount of Olives.
David also prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it in the city of David.
David must have read God’s way to carry the ark of the covenant in the Book of Numbers, written by Moses. Numbers 4:14-15
Poles were inserted into rings at the four corners of the ark near the feet. Exodus 37:1-3
In this way, no one would touch the ark when four priests who were authorized by God to carry the ark.
1 Chronicles 15:2 David said, “No one is to carry the ark of God but the Levites; for the LORD for the LORD chose them to carry the ark of God and to minister to Him forever.”
Three months before, David tried to bring the ark of God to Jerusalem, his way. At that time, the ark was placed on a new cart drawn by oxen. One of the oxen stumbled and Uzza (a priest, by the way) placed his hand on the ark to steady it and he died there before God. No one was to touch the ark, God said so.
God protects His glory – the ark of God represented God’s presence!
