1 Chronicles 12:19-22
Some men from the tribe of Manasseh defected to David’s side – “when he was about to go to battle with the Philistine’s against Saul.”  But those men did not help in that battle – the Philistine captain sent David away for fear that David would take the side of King Saul during the battle.

As David was going to his base camp at Ziklag, some specific men, captains from the tribe of Manasseh joined him.

When David returned to Ziklag – he needed their help.  Raiders had come while he and his army were absent.  The raiders took all the wives and children away.
1 Samuel 30:1-2

The men who came to David were “mighty men of valor” – they were not afraid of war.
David and his men rescued all the wives and children.

More men came to help David – these men became a great army – like an army of God.
