Our Need… to stand firm
1 Chronicles 12:8-15
The tribe of Gad – became allies of David when he was pursued by King Saul. The men who came who were “mighty men of valor trained for war, who could handle shield and spear…” their faces were fierce, and no one would want to tangle with them. An added factor to being good in war, they were fast on their feet. In those days, that is how they fought, on their feet. Wouldn’t you want such men to come and be on your side, in any battle?
When these men came to David, I would think David was thankful to God for them.
When people, with a “fight” to their reputation come to your aid for the difficult times in your life – are you thankful to God for them?
Perhaps you are such a person as those men were from the tribe of Gad.
People’s eyes “light up” when you join them, to back them up, when they are facing challenges.
You are being trained today for tomorrow’s battles.
God is training His followers for the spiritual war we are in – and we are to stand firm.
What weapons do we have? Ephesians 6:11-18 tells us.
Ephesians 6:11 We have the full armor of God – so stand firm!
Ephesians 6:12-13 We are to take up and put on “the full armor of God”. Why? To stand firm against the schemes of the devil, resist and after doing everything possible in preparing for a battle, stand firm!
Ephesians 6:14 Stand firm, you have about your waist – truth (personal integrity and moral courage)
Ephesians 6:15 put on your feet, so you can take “the gospel of peace” wherever you walk.
Ephesians 6:16 very important to take the shield of faith – that is how you will extinguish all the flaming darts of untruth, misinformation, and fake news aimed at you.
Ephesians 6:17 Remember, you have the helmet of salvation on your head and the sword of the Spirit in your hand (God’s word).
Ephesians 6:18 Don’t forget prayer to God – perhaps your mightiest weapon in your life!
Consider this ~
Stand firm, follower of Christ,
when you pray,
when you put on God’s armor,
when you face opposition!
