1 Chronicles 7:20-29
Joseph was the favorite son of Jacob-Israel.  Joseph had two sons, Ephraim & Manasseh.  These two boys were adopted by Jacob-Israel and both of them are listed in the genealogical records as two of the tribes of Israel.  Joseph’s name does not appear, but his two sons do.

Levi, another son of Jacob-Israel, is not listed in the 12 tribes of Israel.  God set them apart to be priests to the other tribes.  They did not receive a large land allotment as the other tribes did, but they did receive a limited amount of land among the tribes in various cities throughout the nation.

Joseph was an important man.  God used him to save the Israelites from starvation during a famine.  It was Joseph’s position of power in Egypt which allowed the 12 tribes to live in a choice location, the land of Goshen.

You can read Joseph’s story in Genesis 37, 39-50.  Joseph’s name and reputation was of a godly man – he trusted the Lord God in the hard places of his life.
