1 Chronicles 6:16-30

The Levite tribe’s genealogy begins with the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath & Merari
Aaron is not mentioned in this list – but Aaron’s father is named: Amram, son of Kohath.

Why are the genealogical lists needed?  The Jewish lists were destroyed when Jerusalem was defeated by the Babylonians in 586 bc.

The chronicler repeats the genealogies for the remnant who returned to Jerusalem from Babylon.  Worship would be restored after the demolished temple was rebuilt.  This new generation and the older people needed to be reminded of the various tribes and their lineage.

The high priest was to come from the priestly tribe of Levi.  The high priest was through Kohath and Aaron and Amram.  It would be one of Aaron’s sons who would serve as high priest.
Being a high priest was an important office representing “a copy and a shadow of the heavenly things.”  Hebrews 8:5

Hebrews 8:1-2
“Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens,
2 a minister in the sanctuary and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man.”

What we think as BORing (genealogies)
is necessary to prove Messiah Jesus as High Priest.
The high priest of Israel was a copy and a shadow of heavenly reality.
