David was king in Hebron and reigned seven and a half years in Hebron.  He had six wives and each wife bore him a son.

Wasn’t David anointed by Samuel many years before, to be king over all Israel?  Yes, he was. 1 Samuel 16:1-13

David waited to be king until he had the support from all the people.  He also waited until Saul was no longer the king.  (Saul was killed in a battle.
1 Samuel 31:1-13)

When David became king in Jerusalem, he had four sons by Bathsheba plus nine sons by concubines.  These sons of the concubines were not mentioned in David’s history other than they were his sons.  He also had one daughter, Tamar.  She is important to the story in the life of David.

Palace intrigue and politics, selfishness and pride – all played a part in the history of David’s children.
Was David a good father?  From reading in 2 Samuel, chapters 13-15 he was not.

Was David devout with a heart for God?  Yes!
David wrote in the book of Psalms – He loved God with his entire being and depended on God.

Are you and I measured by God?  Yes!
Do you love God and trust Him with every area of your life?  Only you can answer that.

David was not perfect and neither are you and I.
But we can love God, trust God, obey God, turn to Him when we sin, and seek His forgiveness like David.

 Consider this ~

It’s all about God – it is NOT all about your name.
