In 1 Chronicles 1:1-42, Esau’s genealogy is carried forward.  Jacob’s (whose name was changed to Israel by God) genealogy follows in
1 Chronicles 2. 

  Esau’s sons became kings long before Jacob’s line established kings.
  Esau did not walk with God.  He chose his own way to live.

  God wanted to be the ruler among His people.  And God’s way chose to rule through judges and the nation of Israel was ruled by judges for many years..  [see the book of Judges for how God did this.]

  1 Chronicles 1:1-42 tells us that kings were the chosen leadership among the people of Esau early in their history.
