Paul met a runaway slave named Onesimus.  Paul knew the master.  Paul sent a plea for Philemon to forgive the slave; by law, Philemon could have the slave put to death.  The slave had become a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ.  Paul appealed to the believing master to forgive the slave and accept him as a beloved brother in the Lord Jesus.

  Philemon 1:15-16 “For perhaps he was for this reason separated from you for a while, that you would have him back forever,
16 no longer as a slave, but more than a slave, a beloved brother, especially to me, but how much more to you, both in the flesh and in the Lord.”
