Samuel anointed David as king – many years before David actually ruled as king in Israel.
David had the heart of a poet, he wrote many of the Psalms. He also had a heart for God. As you read the Psalms he wrote, you can see his heart for God.
God saw that David had a heart for Himself. 2 Samuel 16:7b
At one point in David’s life, he sinned against God. After a year of living with those sins, he confessed them to God and was forgiven by God for murder and adultery.
Although David had a heart for God, that did not make him a man without sin.
David knew God’s character, it is evidenced as the Psalms are read.
One example:
Psalm 103:8-9 “The Lord is compassionate and gracious,
Slow to anger and abounding in lovingkindness.
9 He will not always strive with us,
Nor will He keep His anger forever.”
A few verses later we read:
Psalm 103:12-14 “As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.
13 Just as a father has compassion on his children,
So the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him.
14 For He Himself knows our frame;
He is mindful that we are but dust.”

Being a person after God’s heart
is to turn to God for forgiveness & guidance ~
