Joshua led the Israelites into the Promised Land Their future was bright with promise, but they needed to drive out those who lived in the land, for the inhabitants did not worship the living God.  However, the 12 tribes did not follow God’s words to them.

Disobedience to God’s word results in hard consequences, sometimes years down the road.

Because the tribes did not obey – they eventually intermarried with the pagans and worship of other gods.  The Lord God set up judges to rule in the Promised Land.  As long as the people followed God and worshiped Him, life was good for as long as the judge lived and ruled.  Then began a vicious cycle.  The judge would die, and the people would go back to worshiping other gods.

Then God would bring another judge to rule in IsraelWhen the judge died, the people would come under the suppression of their enemies.  They would live like that for a number of years, then they would cry out to God to come to their aid.  God would raise up a judge.  This unending cycle was repeated on a regular basis.

Judges 21:25 “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in their own eyes.”

Today, are you living by your own code or the world’s code?
Today are you doing what is right in your own eyes?
OR are you living to please God?
