Peter prayed and the followers of Christ who were gathered together agreed with him as he prayed.  They prayed in one accord and “in the name of Your holy servant Jesus.”  What were the results?

(NASB) Acts 4:31 “And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.”

  How did Peter pray?
Acknowledgement of the Creator God, the God of power.
Present circumstances: Referred to Scriptural prophecy that applied to the present circumstances.
Recounted what had occurred to Jesus because of God’s predetermined will.
Requested: God to notice what was being said and done against believers.

For believers to speak God’s word with confidence.
All this “in the name of God’s holy servant Jesus.”

Results: (NASB) Acts 4:31 “And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.”

The whole prayer centered on God, God’s word and His holy servant Jesus.
Did you notice?  There was no ‘help me’, no ‘pity poor me’ attitude, no listing of personal needs, all…all the prayer was about Jesus!

My puny prayers are many times petty and self-serving – forgive me Lord!  Too many times my prayer time is “playing at praying”.  Is yours?

What do we need to ask the Lord God?  Isn’t it to speak His words with confidence and ask Him to bless us by filling us with His Holy Spirit…all believers have been given the Holy Spirit of God when we asked Jesus to be our Savior, to save us from our sins and save us from God’s wrath?
And we have the honor to celebrate His birthday on Friday!

Such boldness that comes with the power of the Holy Spirit only comes from the living God of the Holy Bible…no other source!

~ Take it to heart ~

Are your prayers puny, filled with a self-serving mentality?
Come…let’s grow in our prayer life and begin to pray by the power of God’s Holy Spirit.
