Peter boldly spoke to a crowd who had gathered outside a house in Jerusalem. The living God had sent His Holy Spirit to all within that house. Who were they? They were followers of the risen Lord Jesus Christ. They had been given the ability to speak in various languages. They were speaking the very languages that those in the crowd spoke from many countries and regions. (Acts 2:5-12)
Peter used a prophecy of Joel as a reply to the scoffers and mockers in that crowd. (Joel 2:28-32; Acts 2:17-21)
(Acts 2:13-15, 21) Peter was making a point that God’s Holy Spirit [was] sent and [was] given to all “who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
The Day of Pentecost was a Feast which the Jewish people observed each year. That is one of the reasons for the crowds in Jerusalem at that time.
The Day of Pentecost was fifty days after Passover. Jesus died on Passover, raised three days later from the dead and forty days later ascended into heaven. Then, ten days later, the Day of Pentecost…God sent His Holy Spirit into the lives of believers in Christ Jesus. The Feast of Pentecost in the Old Testament pointed to this very time.
Today is the day that you can turn and yield to God as your Savior and Redeemer. If you have already done that initial step, then each day is the day to turn and yield your life to the living God. Indeed, that step is one of worship and reverence for God Himself.
(Romans 1:1) You, like Paul, are called as a follower of Christ, set apart to tell others of the Good News of Jesus Christ. What is the Good News? Jesus was born, lived, died for your sins and was buried for three days and nights, resurrected to physical life! Good News indeed!
The Day of Pentecost is an important point of reference for all of Christendom.
The God of the Bible continues to keep the door of opportunity open to each person…no one is left out of this possibility. God’s blessings are extended over and over again to all people.
Money or the lack of it,
Works or the lack of it,
Position/power or the lack of it,
Education or the lack of it…means nothing to God.
Jesus Christ, His death, His burial, His resurrection…means everything to God.
Christ Jesus means everything to all who turn to Him in repentance, accepting His payment for our debts of sin against the living God.
~ Take it to heart ~
God is keeping the door and window of opportunity open ~ how do you need to respond?
Each person “who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
