Peter and the others in a group of 120 probably searched the Scriptures, for Peter quoted two prophecies found in the Book of Psalms concerning the betrayer of Jesus.

  What did Peter find?
(NASB) Acts 1:16-20 “Brethren, the Scripture had to be fulfilled, which the Holy Spirit foretold by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who became a guide to those who arrested Jesus.
17 ‘For he was counted among us and received his share in this ministry.’
18 (Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out.
19 And it became known to all who were living in Jerusalem; so that in their own language that field was called Hakeldama, that is, Field of Blood.)
20 ‘For it is written in the book of Psalms,
‘Let his homestead be made desolate,
and let no one dwell in it’;
and
‘Let another man take his office.’”

They found those Scriptures – shouldn’t we also search the Scriptures [even] when our world is in chaos, turmoil and fears assault us?

When you read God’s word, for what are you looking?
[Sometimes ~ agreeing with God and confessing our sins.]
Sometimes ~ comfort.
Sometimes ~ direction.
Sometimes ~ release.
Sometimes ~ joy.
[Sometimes ~ asking Him to give us courage to trust Him in our circumstances.]
Sometimes ~ knowledge.  If so, is that knowledge of God and His ways changing us?

~ Think about this ~

When you and I read God’s word, do we read it to know God’s thoughts, His prophecies, His aim and His reasoning behind the events happening in the world?

[Do we search the Scriptures to know the living God for ourselves?]
Why do you search the Scriptures?  Only you can answer that.
