May Your Will be Done
When God reveals His plan for you, how committed are you to completing His plan? What if it is the hardest thing He has ever asked of you?
Luke 22:39-44 (NIV) “Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he said to them, ‘Pray that you will not fall into temptation.’ He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, ‘Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.’ An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.”
Jesus knew his hour “was at hand”. He knew the torment and the human pain He was going to suffer for us. His anguish was real and deep enough that his sweat was like drops of blood. In spite of all this human pain, in the knowing, came great earnest to follow through on God’s plan of salvation.
Even He needed strength to face what was to come. The angel came and ministered to Him as He prayed. God was there with Him and gave Jesus the strength to complete His Will. God does that for us too.
II Corinthians 12:7b-10 (NIV) “Therefore, in order to keep me from becoming conceited, I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
The time is coming, for all of us, to stand and choose Whom we are going to follow. God’s way gives us grace to accomplish His will…even when its the hardest thing He has ever asked us to do.
