Where do you go for rest? Emotional and spiritual rest are as important as physical rest. In fact spiritual rest is the most important rest anyone can have, it affects our lives – for eternity.
The Lord God Almighty established a Day of Atonement, the Jewish people were to observe this one day a year. It was a day of fasting, the only required fast by God. It was a day of being cleansed from sin.
“It is to be a sabbath of solemn rest for you, that you may humble your souls; it is a permanent statute.” Leviticus 16:31
The rituals connected with this day of Atonement were a “picture” of what Jesus, the Lamb of God would do on the cross. Jesus’ sacrifice was a one time sacrifice, it was all that was needed in the eyes of God the Father. What is proof of this? Jesus was resurrected from the grave.
Jesus atoned for your sins and mine when He took our punishment on the cross.
Our sins? Forgiven! Jesus did His part… and we are to respond by faith in His work for us!
He not only forgives our sins, He forgets them. “Help me, O Lord Jesus, to forgive others in that way, no longer to keep grudges against others… no matter what they said or did.”
For true rest, start with your relationship with the living God of the Holy Bible. Seek Him while He is near. Call on His name to help you, in these days. Isaiah 55:6
“Jesus, thank You for saving me from my very real sins. Thank You for protecting me from the anger and wrath of God because of my sins.
I confess my sins to You, this moment… Thank You for hearing my prayers!
Rest which I need in these days of COVID-19. Thank You.”
My Lord Jesus loved me, and loves me still! Ephesians 5:25
My Lord Jesus sanctifies me (sets me apart). He cleanses me by washing me with the water of His word. It is His word that causes me to recognize my sins, to confess them and be forgiven. Ephesians 5:26
