We are told we should begin and end the day with God, a good thing for sure.  But do we lose sight of why we should spend time with Him?  We are also told to spend time studying the Bible.  We need to pray, to go to church, to witness to others.  Is spending time with God an obligation?  A habit we created?  Or is it much more than that?

Balaam was a sorcerer in the Old Testament.  He knew who God was and he followed God, but only to the extent that the Holy God was one God of many.  He mixed his worship of God with other gods.

Numbers 24:1 (NIV) “Now when Balaam saw that it pleased the Lord to bless Israel, he did not resort to divination as at other times, but turned his face toward the wilderness.”

How do we treat God?  Is He our God out of obligation?  Is He our God when it suits us to follow Him or give Him a designated part of our day?

Or, is He always our God?  Our Savior Who redeemed us from eternal death and gave us eternal life?  A God worthyto be praised…always…above every other name?

A question to ponder… Do you spend time with God because you want to spend time with God?  Not because you have been told that is the way to be a good Christian?

Philippians 2:8-11 (NIV) “And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!  Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”  AMEN!!!
