Serving with a servant’s heart
When was the last time you were told not to do what everyone else is doing? Be different? What? What will my friends think or say if I don’t go along with them? Besides, I like being the most looked up to, others kowtow to me… I like that!
The Passover meal was completed, the third cup of red wine (the cup of Redemption) had been instituted as a reminder of the new covenant Jesus was establishing… that very next day He would die on the cross for them. Luke 22:20
Jesus even pointedly said that one of those twelve would betray Him.
Luke 22:21-22
Then an argument began – who was the greatest among them? Was it Peter, James, or John or one of the other twelve? Luke 22:24
Jesus did not say, ‘Stop the arguing!’ He did say that the Gentile kings lorded over people. People in power showed their authority.
What did Jesus say?
NASB Luke 22:26 “But it is not this way with you…”
He went on to say that the greatest among them must become like the youngest, humble, teachable, serving others with a servant’s heart.
Luke 22:26
Jesus continued, “… ‘But I am among you as one who serves.’” Luke 22:27 He was not finished with His teaching about a servant being the greatest.
Follower of Christ – we are to follow the example of Jesus our Savior and Lord.
We are to choose His attitude. He became a bond-servant… when He went to the cross and died for our sins. He intentionally served you and me. Philippians 2:5-8
~ Take it to heart ~
Do you serve your Savior with the heart of a servant?
“It is my pleasure to serve.”
