Passover is a Jewish holy day.  It happens about the time of the celebration of Easter or Resurrection Sunday for Christians.

Where did this come from, what does it really mean?
When Moses was about to lead the Hebrew slaves out of Egypt… the LORD God told Moses to institute a special meal… it had to do with the sacrifice of a perfect male year-old lamb or goat.

There were certain requirements to be met in preparing this sacrifice… and the people were to eat it that night.  The lamb’s blood was to be put on the doorposts and the lintels of the houses and the Jewish people were to stay inside.  At midnight the angel of Death would “Passover” those houses and the first-born male in all other families would die.  Exodus 12:1-13

“…Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.”

When Jesus celebrated that last Passover with His disciples… He made arrangements to eat that Passover lamb with them.
NASB Luke 22:7 “Then came the first day of Unleavened Bread on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed.”

Before the blood could be put on those doorposts and lintels in Egypt, the lamb had to be killed.
In the same way, the Messiah Jesus, had to die. Now, His blood covers all who receive Him as their Savior.

Jesus was the Passover Lamb who was sacrificed.
NASB John 1:29 “… ‘The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”

Jesus died on purpose… so all could have their sins taken away.  But we need to receive such a wonderful gift of sacrifice by asking Jesus to be our Savior.

NASB John 5:24 “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life.”
