How hard is it for you to let go of something you are hanging onto tightly?Do you grasp it with both hands and jealously guard it so no one will take it from you?
What if… the Lord Jesus asks you to let go so He can use it?
That is what the Lord asked of some owners of a donkey which had never been ridden. A donkey of all things! He was going to fulfill Scriptural prophecy about Messiah riding in triumph into Jerusalem on the colt of a donkey. Zechariah 9:9
Jesus was walking toward Jerusalem and up ahead were two villages. He asked two of His disciples to go on ahead and untie a colt of a donkey in the next village. He told them what to say if they were questioned. They found that donkey, untied it and the owners asked, “Why are you untying the colt?” And they answered as the Lord Jesus directed them, “The Lord has need of it.” Luke 19:34
What do you have, which the Lord is asking of you to give to Him for His use?
You do not need to know the details, the disciples didn’t, but they obeyed His directive. So did the owners of the colt.
Did any of them imagine they were involved with fulfilling prophecy of Messiah? I don’t think so, at least not right then. But they did know they were obeying what Jesus asked of them. Do you? Do you obey what the Lord asks of you even if you don’t understand the purpose?
“The Lord has need of it.”
~ Take it to heart ~
You may not understand the exact purpose Jesus has in mind, but you can know that obedience, your obedience, is needed.
“The Lord has need of it.”
