A Blind Beggar… No Longer
Do you know of someone who is blind? Physically, spiritually, mentally, emotionally, even socially?
I once was blind, not physically, but spiritually. I didn’t even know enough to cry out to Jesus for His mercy and healing.
A blind man got up, dressed and sat down at a certain place along a road leading into Jericho… to beg for money. Luke 18:35
What this man did not know: Jesus was traveling this road into Jericho that day!
What this man did know: a large crowd was coming… he asked people around him, ‘What’s going on?’
What this man was told: ‘Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.’ Luke 18:36-37
What this blind man immediately did: “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me.” Luke 18:38
What the blind man was told:‘Keep quiet, stop yelling.’
This did not stop the blind man. In fact, he yelled louder! “Son of David, have mercy on me!” Luke 18:39
Jesus stopped when he heard that voice calling out to Him for mercy. He commanded that the man be brought to Him. When the blind man was near, Jesus asked him a question.
Jesus did not ask for the man’s name or how long he had been blind or what he did for a living.
“What do you want Me to do for you?”
Immediately, the blind beggar said, “Lord, I want to regain my sight!”
Luke 18:40-41
What the blind man knew: He knew Jesus healed others. He also knew that Jesus was of the lineage of King David. He knew Jesus was merciful.
Jesus said, “Receive your sight; your faith has made you well.” And immediately, that blind man could see! He saw the face of Jesus, he saw the others around him. He saw the blue sky and the colors in nature and clothing. Luke 18:42
The blind beggar was blind no longer.
What did he do immediately? He followed Jesus! He followed Him into Jericho. He was not silent, he glorified God. He became a witness to the power and mercy of Jesus Christ.
The people also gave praise to God for healing this blind man who was blind… no longer. Luke 18:43
~ Take it to heart ~
“Open my blind eyes to “see” You, Lord Jesus, today. Open my blind eyes to follow You, wherever You lead me. Open my mute mouth to praise You; to glorify Your name so others will know that You are the merciful Savior… who gives blind beggars their sight. Let me have the same faith the blind man had.”
