Possessions may possess… you
What do you own that is the most important to you? Jesus pinpointed what was most important to a rich young ruler… and that ruler went away with sadness.
Jesus spoke to a rich young ruler who asked Him a personal question.
“Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?” Luke 18:18
Jesus led this young man’s thoughts to what he was doing. And directed him to be faithful doing what God commands. The young man said yes, he followed God’s commands, he didn’t commit adultery, or murder or steal or lie about others and he honored his parents. Luke 18:20
Jesus then said a surprising thing, “One thing you lack; see all that you possess and distribute it to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” Luke 18:21 NASB
This unnamed young man heard Jesus say to sell all that he possessed. I ask, did his possessions possess him?
Did this young man not hear Jesus say, “… come, follow Me.”?
Jesus asked this rich young ruler to totally follow Jesus, to not let his possessions be possessing him.
What possesses you? What do you need to do to put Jesus first in your life?
~ Take it to heart ~
Following Jesus is letting Him be first in your life … are you putting your possessions first?
