“… if he repents… forgive.”
Guilt hangs heavy around our necks. Guilt is a load that we often carry and it can control our lives.
I think Satan and his minions (the demons) love us to feel/be guilty! It keeps God’s children from freedom and even from God Himself.
Think about it – being guilty of sin against God may drive us away from God and His loving forgiveness.
Jesus talked to His followers about forgiving others. When anyone asks to be forgiven, they are repenting! We are to forgive!
What?! How many times are we to forgive another in one day? For the same sin?
Listen carefully as you read Jesus’ answer.
“Be on your guard! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.
And if he sins against you seven (yes, 7) times a day, and returns to you seven times (yes, 7), saying ‘I repent,’ forgive him.” Luke 17:3-4
Since we, as followers of Christ, are to forgive – then we can know God, Who is so much greater, forgives all who turn to Him in repentance. Repentance is turning from a specific sin and working not to repeat it. Sometimes that sin is a habit and/or an addiction.
Repent – knowing God forgives over and over and over.
It would be so much simpler if we repent and never do that sin again… and many times that does happen.
But when it doesn’t, God is faithful and continues to forgive when we repent even if it is multiple times during one day! For the same sin.
This does not give us the freedom to continuously, consciously sin…
~ Take it to heart ~
Jesus teaches all His followers to forgive, generously forgive, each time there is repentance involved. After all, He has done that for you and me.
“… if he repents…” “… forgive.”
