Back Porch Retreat
During days that are the same, over and over. During times of stress and circumstances which are hard. During times of joy when there is not a cloud in your life. How do you deal with each of these situations?
Taking time apart, to be alone with the Lord and His word, is really important – no matter your circumstances.
My back porch is a place I go for retreat… to spend time just between the Lord and me.
Where is your favorite place to spend time alone with the Lord? Just you and Him?
I encourage you to find that “special” place and that “special” time!
A retreat is a time to rest… to quietly wait – for the Lord; to listen to God’s word to you; to watch and see what He has for you.
A retreat doesn’t have to last long… even a half hour can be a retreat. How often do you retreat from the world to be alone with the Lord?
Today, I chose Psalm 27 to be my focus on the Lord and His words to me.
Psalm 27:1 says, “The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the defense of my life; whom shall I dread?” NASB
You may want to use the whole Psalm, but because this is a devotional, I chose some verses from this Psalm that are an encouragement. God’s words are true, unchanging and filled with love for you.
Psalm 27:7-10 “Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice,
And be gracious to me and answer me.
8 ‘When You said, ‘Seek My face,
my heart said to You, ‘Your face, O LORD I shall seek.
9 ‘Do not hide Your face from me,
Do not turn Your servant away in anger;
You have been my help;
do not abandon me nor forsake me,
O God of my salvation.”
Go on a retreat, just between you and the LORD; you are encouraged to use God’s words as your own prayer.
At the end of a rest-filled half-hour, I came to the same conclusion as the Psalmist.
“Wait for the LORD;
Be strong and let your heart take courage;
Yes, wait for the LORD.”
Psalm 27:14 NASB
